From trekking to admiring the flowers, and a farming experience, this route will bring you closer to nature. As this route will require quite a bit of walking, wear something that’s easy to move around in, and don’t forget to bring your camera to snap some shots at the scenic spots you’ll pass along the way.

Somayama Castle Ruins
Trek around 500m to Somayama Castle. There are many photo-worthy spots along the way, such as a 360 degree view into a heart-shaped cave at Uchikake-iwa.
Standing at a height of 492m, Mount Somayama used to be referred to as Mount Hiei of the north. The main castle keep was located across the entire hill, and this castle served as the main stronghold for the Southern Court in Hokuriku during the Nanboku-cho period due to its favorable geographical location as a chokepoint for traffic. This is designated as a national historic site, and is popular as a hiking trail now.

The blooming period for lotuses are from end June to early August. The best time of day to see lotus flowers are in the morning, so do take note when you are planning to visit.
Located in a town famous in Japan for producing lotus blooms, Hanahasu Park is one of the signature attractions of this town. A Lotus Festival is held in the park every year from end June to early August. Over 130 varieties of lotuses from all over the world can be found in the park, creating a magnificent sight when the flowers are in bloom.

Located just beside Hanahasu Park is Hanahasu Onsen Somayama, which has baths open to the public, and also provides accommodation facilities. Visitors can relax and enjoy a leisurely soak in the outdoor bath, as well as the Lotus Bath which is unique to this bathhouse.
